Shepherds Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lb – Lean ground turkey (Refer notes)
  • ½ Cup – Onion, chopped
  • 1 ½ Cup – Carrot, chopped
  • 1 ½ Cup – Cabbage, chopped
  • 1 ½ Cup – Celery, chopped
  • 2 Tablespoon – Ginger, minced
  • 4 Tablespoon – Garlic, minced
  • 1 Tsp – Fresh Thyme, minced
  • 1 Tsp – Fresh Oregano, minced
  • 4 – Green chilly
  • 2 Tablespoon – Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon – Ketchup
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Oil
  • 6 – Big potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 3/4 Cup – Milk
  • 1 ½ Cup – Grated cheese, divided (I used Havarti, Parmigiano Reggiano and Sharp Cheddar)
  • Salt



Instructions

    For vegetables
  1. Heat some oil in a saute pan and add onions followed by 1 tablespoon ginger, 1 tablespoon garlic and chopped green chilly
  2. Add the carrots, celery, cabbage and saute for a few mins.
  3. Season with salt and pepper
  4. Take off the heat and keep aside
    For meat
  1. Heat some oil in a saute pan and add 1 tablespoon ginger, 3 tablespoon garlic
  2. Add the ground turkey or any meat of your choice
  3. Mix in Worcestershire sauce and Ketchup
  4. Add thyme and oregano and season with salt and pepper
  5. Take off the heat and keep aside
  6. When the meat is cooked, add the sauteed vegetables and mix everything together. Take off the heat and keep aside
    For mashed potatoes
  1. Pressure cook the potatoes and peal and mash them
  2. In a non stick sauce pan add the mashed potatoes and milk and 1 cup cheese
  3. As soon as the cheese melts take it off the heat
    Assembly
  1. Add the meat and vegetable mixture at the bottom of the pan
  2. Top it with mashed potatoes
  3. Add 1/2 cup of cheese as garnish
  4. Bake in the oven at 400 degree oven until bubbling and brown (about 30 minutes). Broil for last few minutes if necessary to brown.
